If you want a unique challenge in surfing and would like to do something for impoverished children, this is a great chance make a world of difference! Now in its eleventh year, this is the Illawarra’s only endurance paddling event.
We’d like to see 50 paddlers, each making the 20km distance. A total of 1000km paddled!
WHY? Use your surfing to help others. Join in with North Wollongong Christian Surfers as they raise ongoing sponsorship for the eleventh year in the education of five children with Compassion (Rwanda, Philippines, Indonesia, Kenya). Any extra support will go towards relief efforts in Japan through CRASH organisation. Funds will also cover insurance for the local Christian Surfers group.
WHO? Anyone who wants to have a go, as long as they are of high school age (with permission) and above. We have had age ranges from 13 to 57 in previous paddles. We are aiming for at least 50 participants.
WHEN? Meeting at 7am at either North Wollongong or Stanwell Park depending on wind direction (check paddleathon.com on Saturday night for final details) and paddling to Thirroul. We are anticipating a 3-4 hour paddle.
HOW? Secure a rescue or racing board, stand-up paddle board or surf ski/kayak. Rubber Duckie and jet-ski support, along with other boats, will accompany us and paddlers can rest on board. Support vehicle will be available driving alongside and paddlers can exit the water at any point. Mobile phone contact throughout.
PREPARATION?
- Access a board or ski (contact your local SLSC via a member).
- For insurance you must sign-up as a member of North Wollongong Christian Surfers on the form below.
- On the day bring sunscreen and hat (goggles help if windy); food and water; rash shirt or light wetsuit. BBQ lunch will be provided at completion on the beach.
SPONSORSHIP: Raise a minimum of $150 sponsorship – though the sky’s the limit! You can raise sponsorship via self-funding, or utilize a sponsorship form with multiple sponsors for $/km.
